Chosen as one of the top 10 beaches in Hong kong by TimeOut, Clear Water Bay is my favorite beach in Hong Kong. The water quality of clear water bay outweighs most of the famous beaches in Hong Kong Island such as repulse bay, Stanley, and Shek O.
Basic Information
Clear Water Bay is comprised of 2 beaches:
- Clear Water Bay First Beach
- Clear Water Bay Second Beach
It is very easy to reach (connected with public transport), with great facilities such as public toilets, showers, changing rooms, shark nets, and safeguards services. If you are going from the TKO or Choi Hung area, the bus or minibus will stop at the first Beach then to the Second Beach.
Due to the lack of parking facilities in First Beach and the long stairs you need to walk up and down, I would recommend going to the Clear Water Bay Second Beach if you are driving there or going with young kids.
Both are public beaches and they are very close to each other, however, you cannot walk from the coast towards each other because there is a sharp rocky coast in between.
Do bear in mind that both the first and second beach is connected with the closest car park/ bus stops with stairs, and hence make them not that friendly to disable people or elderly.
How to get there
Public Transportation:
By Bus
- Take KMB bus 91 from Diamond Hill MTR
By Minibus
- Take Green Minibus 16 from Po Lam MTR
- Take Green Minibus 103 from Kwun Tong Ferry Pier (There is a stop at Kwun Tong Swimming Pool, but it could be full by weekend or holidays)
- Take Green Minibus 103M from Tseung Kwan O MTR (around 15 mins ride with no traffics)
- Take Red Minibus from Ngau Chi Wan minibus terminus (Not recommended, Red minibus is privately owned so they will wait until the bus is full to start, sometimes you may need to wait pretty long)
By Taxi or Uber
You can take both green and red taxi from Hang Hui MTR station to clear water bay. If you are planning to take an Uber there, the best place to wait is Exit A (outside of Maxims and 7-11).
By Drive
If you are driving from the Hong Kong island, the best way is to take the eastern tunnel, followed by Tseung Kwan O Tunnel then go up from Hang Hau.
If you are going from Kowloon or New Territories, unless you are already in Sai Kung, we don’t suggest you to take the Sai Kung side to go there because traffic happens all the time.
Food and Drinks
Worrying about you may get hungry or thirsty on the beach? There is a small store located on the beach selling refreshments, sometimes their food quality is not that good when they are busy, but hey, it’s a monopoly there.
Or else there is a local delivery service that sells snacks and drinks at a much lower price than the store if you don’t mind picking up your food and drinks at the car park, their number is +852 5261 3413. If you can call them one day earlier and ask them to prepare everything for you the price would be much cheaper.
You may also consider having a nice village seafood dinner at those famous Po Toi O restaurants after your sunbathing. However, if you are not driving you may need to wait for the 16 Green minibus to reach there from Clear Water Bays bus stops.
Or else, take the minibus back to Hang Hau and Tseung Kwan O station and you will find many restaurant options there.
Pet Friendly?
Do note that Clear Water Bay First and Second Beach are both government-owned and pets are prohibited there, however, if you wish to take your doggies to a beach, you can consider of bringing them to the Sheung Sze Wan Beach, there is neither lifeguard nor shark net there but the community did a great job of cleaning their beach and make it looks very nice.

Close to Clear Water Bay second beach there are the 4 hiking trails close to the beach:
- Lung Ha Wan Loop
- Lung Ha Wan Country Trail
- Clear Water Bay Coastal Extended Loop
- Clear Water Bay Coastal Extended Trail
Country Park
Around 5 mins drive from Clear Water Bay 2nd Beach, you will reach the Clear Water Bay Country Park. There is a walking path, BBQ and Kite Flying Site, small cafes, and deliveries.
Golf Club
Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club are located in between of Po Toi O Seafood restaurant. It is a member only Golf club.
