Best Hong Kong Kayaking Spots and Tours – Our Recommendation

Sam Mun Tsai

Only a 15 mins minibus ride from Tai Po Station, Sam Mun Tsai and is a great place for weekend kayaking trips. You may also be able to see spotted seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), which is an animal on the “Red List of Threatened Species”, of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The waters around Sam Mun Tsai are protected and relatively calm, makes it very suitable for beginners. You can visit Yeung Chau, Lung Mei artificial beach, and Tai Mei Tuk Area.

SSW Board House provides Kayaking and Paddle Board Guided Tours and Rentals. You may choose to join a guided tour led by the team of ex-professional kayak Hong Kong team member, Angel Ho.

The rental prices start at $200 for a single kayak and $300 for a double kayak on weekdays, with prices going up to $50 on holidays and weekends. For SUP, the price is fixed at 250 per day.

For the trips, they offer family-friendly tours, eco-tours, SUP courses, Kayaking / Canoeing course, and skills improvement courses.

The staffs are super friendly (probably the most friendly we’ve met) and their instructors are amazing! We’ve joined one of their guided tours and they took us to a beach with many starfishes!

We also love the location because there are many attractions and restaurants nearby: Biking, Tsz Shan Monastery, yummy noodles shop, BBQs, Thai Restaurants.

How to get there:

Take MTR to Tai Po Station then take 75K minibus to Sam Mun Tsui, get off at Sam Mun Tsui RoundAbout. The entrance is just right next to the Church.

SSWBoardHouse is unmissable for water sports in Sam Mun Tsai and Tai Mei Tuk area, and you can whats app them at +852 9449 9919 to reserve if you like.

Sheung Sze Wan

Sheung Sze Wan is a small beach located in the Clearwater Bay area, also it’s the closest location to these amazing destination:

  • The very famous green egg island, aka Lan Pai
  • Shelter island, where is a great location with beautiful corals and very suitable for snorkeling,
  • Tiu Chung Chau, where you can find amazing sea arches there.

The route from Sheung Sze Wan to green egg island and shelter island is relatively easy and suitable for beginners, however, going to Tiu Cheung Island would be a much longer journey and only go if you have enough paddle experience.

We highly recommend joining a guided tour organized by Hong Kong Kayak team member Angel Ho’s group. They are all experienced professional kayak instructors which great personalities, we had a great time last year with instructor Elaine.

Upon our request, she took an icebox filled with beers and bubblies with her. We were just… so wasted, lol.

Sheung Sze Wan is located in clearwater bay, probably one of the areas with the best water quality in Hong Kong. Just paddling around the area is already a great day out on the water.

How to get there:

You can take a minibus 103m from Tseung Kwan O station, then walk down the slope from Sheung Sze Wan station, or else you can also take bus 91 from Diamond hill. The easiest way would be to take a taxi from Hang Hau station.
